The one room stopping this 1909 Capitol
Hill beauty from winning a pageant was the
kitchen. Previous owners had made a
half-hearted remodeling attempt, which did
nothing to enhance market value. But they
did leave behind a fabulous, French,
LaCanche range and hood, which were
showcased in a magnificent new kitchen
design.
To realize the kitchen desired, specific
goals were set. We would open the
kitchen to the dining room in a manner
that did not deter the formality of the
dining space, and a chimney would be
knocked down for easier passage. More
windows for natural light were
necessary. French doors to the patio
would be included. Existing interior
doorways would be eliminated and new
vintage styled passageways added. An
island, of sizable proportion, was a
must. A bake center, a coat closet, and
a powder room addition stood prominent
on our goal list. The project would
include many of the same, wonderful
architectural elements that already
existed within the home, including the
painted ceiling box beams in the dining
room.
